Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center

Aurora, Colorado

With a view of the Rocky Mountains beyond, the 2 million square foot Gaylord Rockies project includes over 500,000 sf of flexible meeting space, 5 Restaurants and Bars, a world class spa and fitness center, an indoor & outdoor water park, and 1501 various room types/suites. The crowning feature of the resort is a 48,000 sf grand lodge with a peak ceiling level of 75 feet. Expectations are high for everyone on the team but especially the lighting design to keep up with other Gaylord properties scattered around the US. The Grand Lodge is a very themed room that stretches the limits of most light fixtures. Two levels of color programmable high lumen track mounted fixtures occur at heights of 36 and 75 feet and are all individually aimed to their intended targets within the lodge. Also each DMX track fixture is individually programmed for it’s own color for 4 scenes that replicate the four seasons of each year. Various LLD staff teams visited the site for three weeks’ before the resort opened where we aimed lighting and programmed the projects front of house global lighting control system that reacts to sunrise and sunset times as they adjust over 365 days.
