Four Seasons Hotel Tunis

Gammarth, Tunisia

On the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the Four Seasons Tunis project opened December 2017. The project was over 10 years in the making, including a construction shut down for 2 years after the Tunisian president was overthrown during the commencement of the Arab Spring. After the project came back on board, the lighting went through an entire project modernization introducing LED technology reducing energy consumption in a country with escalating energy costs. Severe budget issues, 5,700 miles and language barriers were constantly worked through. Historic Carthage was a mere 16 kilometers away which had a heavy influence on the final design. Lighting was key to set the tone of the hotel and to emphasize Tunisian forms and locally sourced artifacts. Locally made decorative light fixtures became a large part of the successful lighting solution. Spending years working with local artisans to get the quality of light needed lumens and controllability out of these fixtures while not losing the visual Tunisian character could not be avoided. Setting of the control system reduced power consumption by 27% daily and training of the engineering staff assures longevity of the final product.
