The original two miles of argon tubes have illuminated the tallest building in downtown Dallas since 1985. After 28 years of maintenance problems, the owner hired Lang Lighting Design to examine new lighting system possibilities for the building. The existing argon lighting system required a $120,000 yearly maintenance contract to continually replace argon lamps that had broken, releasing argon and
mercury into the atmosphere. A custom LED fixture with a 1.5” diameter, shatter proof diffuser provides a 250° viewing angle. The installed fixtures are currently set at a 57% output to emulate the brightness of the previous argon tubes. Overtime, the control system will compensate to extend the life of the fixtures. The new LED lighting reduced the yearly maintenance by $40,000 and $35,500 annually in energy costs.
